Elon Musk Is Trying to Buy America And We Cannot Let Him Get Away With That—Again

We now know Elon Musk has spent at least $445 million to save Republicans from their own failures. And we have to assume that number will exceed a billion by election day, even if you don’t count the incalculable advantage he gets from rigging X, which he uses every day to weaponize hate and disinformation against Democrats algorithmically.

And this should surprise absolutely no one, except the entire Democratic Party. 

Except for a few stray comments, they’ve largely stayed quiet out of caution, denial, or outright fear. And the fear is justified. Musk is threatening THE WHOLE OF A NEW DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS ALREADY. And he’s in the process of possibly destroying one of the jewels of the left, Media Matters, with a frivolous lawsuit. Hence, the strategy has generally been to let Musk and his barrage of anti-trans hate go unanswered in any way that would be coherent to voters.

But James Talarico has learned that this strategy is essentially surrender, but only because he had to. Musk has poured something like $200 million into buying a Senate seat for human filth Ken Paxton, the way he bought human filth Trump the presidency. We have to assume that number will reach nearly half a billion because losing a statewide race in Texas is unacceptable for both Musk and the Republican Party. The sometime trillionaire moved there to feel California’s mildest attempts to hold him to any societal standards. And winning the presidency becomes almost impossible if Republicans don’t keep the Lone Star State solidly R.

It’s an emergency for them, and they’re acting like it. 

And Talarico is acting like one billionaire’s fundamentally un-American attempt to drown out the will of the voters is the abomination that it is, finally:

But is it too late? Maybe. Texas is almost impossible for Democrats to win because, among other reasons, the GOP has used its decades of one-party rule and the death of the Voting Rights Act to solidify Jim Crow-like voting laws.

Is it enough? Definitely not.

Let me be clear: it’s a start, and it's far better than what Dems did in 2024. But to drown out a billion dollars in lies, we need billions in earned truth.

And we know exactly what that looks like. It looks like Wisconsin in the spring of 2025, when rage over Musk’s purchase of the presidency, his celebratory Sieg Heils, and the dismantling of our government and foreign aid for millions led to the #TeslaTakedown, which set the stage for the Wisconsin Dems’ People v. Musk campaign, turning the tens of millions Musk was spending against his own project.

You cannot buy the media that rose to defeat Musk’s state Supreme Court candidate so badly that Musk didn’t even spend on this year’s race.

So what would a movement that could defeat Musk and reject this second attempt to assault our democracy in front of all of our faces this time look like?

It would be nice if emergency Tesla Takedowns popped up across America. It would be great if nearly every Democratic candidate ran at least one ad narrating the horror and corruption of what Musk is trying to do for a second time. It would be nice if every famous person alive posted: We won’t let this sick freak buy our country AGAIN.

I’ve been screaming that this is coming all year. I tried to warn people he'd repeat what he did in 2024, but worse. That’s why I made StoptheTrillionaires.com because I don’t think even the most informed people get just how much Musk’s power and money made Trump’s return and this entire nightmare possible.

We should have been inoculating voters against this bullshit since January.

And verily, I can tell you, it can work again. Of course, there are reasons to think it won’t. It might take a trillion in spending to drown out the fury at gas prices and the spectacle of the orange clown who raised them running around the country, bragging about how smart he was to blow up your budget, and shouldn’t you thank him with a giant gold room to hold his balls?

But I need you to consider what happens if this works? 

What if Elon gets away with buying Texas, and possibly much more, even after he and his party have effectively junked our country, taken health insurance from tens of millions, starved kids on food stamps, stomped on our medical research and higher ed system, and hunted our neighbors in the street to enforce nothing but white supremacy, murdering our friends who stood up against that in the streets?

His only punishment for any of this so far? Becoming the world's first trillionaire.

That reality is one we can never accept. We must teach Elon that every dime he spends to buy us will be turned against him. Our freedom depends on it.
