What if Democrats let Elon Musk and the massive forces of capital buy this election?

It’s not victim-blaming to say that we must blame the villains if we want to make voters heroes.
What if Democrats let Elon Musk and the massive forces of capital buy this election?

There’s good news almost everywhere for Democrats and their hopes of taking back one or two houses of Congress, except from exactly where you don’t want to hear bad news in an election year: Wisconsin.

Tell them, Bezos Post:

Ben Wikler, a former chair of the Wisconsin Democratic Party, put it this way: Democrats in the state are being battered with a “Thanos glove of Republican money” — a reference to the supervillain and his all-powerful glove from the Marvel franchise.

“Campaigns are running fewer ads. They’re splitting 30-second ads into 15-second chunks. They’re having to choose between defining themselves and defining their opposition,” said Wikler, detailing the difficult choices candidates must make. “At this point you’re just deciding where you want to lose by less.”

Wisconsin is somewhat unique because there is no US Senate race to draw tens of millions in donor money. But not that unique.

Republicans are poised to massively outspend Democrats on advertising: Since the start of August, they have placed $820 million in ad buys across the Senate map, compared to $556 million from Democrats, including future bookings through Election Day. That includes outspending Democrats in all but one of the nine most expensive Senate races, according to a POLITICO review of data from AdImpact, which tracks political advertising.

Democrats are being hammered with a deluge of amoral capital and propaganda unlike any political party has ever faced in a midterm election.

To Americans who intentionally avoid politics and news about it, which is most of America, this may be quite confusing. And here’s how it manifests in the human brain.

Why am I hearing about trans people every 11 seconds like I’m Matt Walsh’s therapist? Why is JD Vance being more racist, making this life hell for kids like his own?

This can seem like a naturally occurring phenomenon if you avoid the news!

It could even seem like a backlash justified by the restoration of the glorious rigidity of sex and orientation assigned at birth. Instead of what it actually is: bully-brained horseshit that wouldn’t survive the briefest conversation with a grown woman (who doesn’t want to be traumatized by Amy Chua).

Abdul El-Sayed set the model this year in Michigan’s US Senate race for turning attacks against you to your advantage, showing that you don’t cringe or hide when the billionaire class turns the firehose on you.

You don’t duck or wince. You make the money itself, and what it represents- the issue- an albatross to hang on your opponent’s shingle.

When outside dark-money spenders and mega-donors dropped historic sums into the Michigan Senate primary to bury him, El-Sayed didn’t melt or try to move to the mythical-yet-movable center; he dragged the attacks straight into the daylight to expose their cowardice. That confrontational and moral clarity scrambled his opponent’s strategy, twice. El-Sayed’s Republican opponent, Florida Mike Rogers, has quietly begged AIPAC not to spend or advertise on his behalf, terrified that he’d suffer the same fate as the last campaign in Michigan to tether itself to AIPAC and the agenda of the Likud party of Israel.

That was also the blueprint for Wisconsin Dems last spring when Elon Musk tried to buy the Supreme Court of Wisconsin to go with his presidency. They launched People v. Musk. And Musk lost by double digits and hasn’t been seen in a cheese hat since.

Yet during the Tesla Takedown, and too often, the Democratic Party’s general stance slouches back to its 2024 posture: stay silent, cross your fingers, and let Republicans set the narrative while working people drown in noise and you run ads about bipartisanship.

Thankfully, reality occasionally fights back.

Forget AI. The innovation of the century is that someone finally invented a technology that could fact-check Donald Trump at scale: gas pumps.

But what if high prices set by President High Prices to Pay For His Corruption and Forever War aren’t enough? What if the dudes who scammed America into crypto, into AI, into the authoritarian fever dreams of the Trump regimes overcome our actual human intelligence? Again.

What if the GOP’s willingness to bend the law to gain every possible advantage, multiplied by a Department of Justice led by a man who feels his highest calling in life is to help Donald Trump get away with crimes, creates court fights and doubts beyond our wildest imagination?

Democrats need to narrate what’s happening to the American people’s eyes, ears, and brains. Because a fight with Trump is coming, even if we win as cleanly as possible. The man cannot take an L. And neither will capital, not with the AI bubble at stake. People need to know why they’re suffering this childish bullshit from con men who see them as marks to upsell, scam, or impregnate, or all three.

This election isn’t about fighting to halt, reverse, and rebuild from Trump and Musk’s attacks on the public good. It’s about making sure that America never has a trillionaire because democracy is barely surviving billionaires.

Democrats can make the case in a sentence. We are fighting for a future we can afford, clean air and water you can trust, and a meaningful say in what gets built next door. Nobody should be able to buy that. Meanwhile, Republicans are just trolling kids, pretending to care about sports they wouldn’t watch even if their own daughter was playing, all to protect Trump, his war, his high prices, and his corruption. All so Elon can build another dirty data center.

These billionaires who want to be trillionaires are spending hundreds of millions on mailers, deepfakes, and ads so you'll tune out, stay home, or blame your neighbor or some trans kids for what data center barons did to your gas bill.

So we beat them at the ballot box. We make every dollar they spent backfire. Then we take back the resources they've been looting. We rebuild our country’s science and soul. And we steer America back toward freedom and away from their apartheid lust and greed for a life we can afford and love.

And it all begins by making sure our next Congress investigates DOGE.

Back It’s Us V. Musk here.
